Councillor removed from Municipal Council of Bihac
SARAJEVO 15 June 2000
SARAJEVO, 15 June 2000 - The Provisional Election Commission in Bosnia and Herzegovina has removed the mandate of a councillor elected to the Municipal Council of Bihac in the April 2000 municipal elections. The mandate of Mr. Besim Saric, president of the Bosnjacka Stranka Prava (BSP), was removed because the Commission found him in violation of Rule 7.16 on illegal occupancy.
The Provisional Election Commission will award Mr. Saric's mandate to the next qualified candidate on the party list.
The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to check the status of councillors? compliance with the Rule 7.16. All elected councillors will continue to be subject to this rule and could be removed from office if found not to be in compliance.
The OSCE established its present Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 18 December 1995. In accordance with the General Framework Agreement for Peace, the OSCE Mission activities are to promote Democratization and the building of a vibrant civil society, foster the development of Professional journalism and monitor the rights of journalists, monitor and advance the Human Rights situation, supervise the conduct of Elections, and encourage Regional Stabilization through arms control and confidence and security-building measures. The OSCE Mission continues to work closely with other international organizations and local institutions to implement the Dayton Peace Accords.
