May 31 deadline to register for future elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina
SARAJEVO 27 April 2000
SARAJEVO, 27 April 2000 - The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina encourages all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina living abroad who have never registered before to submit their voter application for future elections.
To register as a new voter, applicants must complete a registration form, attach a copy of an identification document containing a photograph and mail or fax both to the Out-of-Country Voting Branch by Wednesday, May 31, 2000.
A citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina who successfully confirmed his or her registration to vote by-mail in the municipal elections held in April 2000 does not need to take any further action and will automatically be mailed a ballot for future elections. OSCE should, however, be notified in case of any change of address or personal data.
Out of country voters who voted in the 1998 elections but did not confirm their previous registration for the municipal elections held in April 2000 should express their intention to cast a ballot for future elections by returning the confirmation form mailed to them together with a photocopy of an ID document. If they fail do so, their name will be taken off the voters' register.
The OSCE Mission to BiH also encourages BiH citizens abroad who voted only in the 1997 elections but did not confirm their registration for the municipal elections held in April 2000 to fill in a new registration form.
They should attach a photocopy of an identification document if they want to vote in future elections. If they fail do so, their name will also be taken off the voters' register.
Voter confirmations and change-of-personal-data forms must be received at the OSCE Out of Country Voting Branch by June 30, 2000.
Voter information and registration materials are available at BiH embassies and consulates, at offices of international, governmental and non-governmental organisations dealing with refugees and migration issues as well as on the website of the OSCE Mission to BiH www.oscebih.org.
If a registered out-of-country voter, however, returns to Bosnia and Herzegovina, he/she shall visit a Voter Registration Centre to be assigned to a Polling Station enabling them to be cast a ballot in person on Election Day.
