OSCE Office trains detention facilities staff on rights of suspects and accused
Some 20 police and penitentiary officers working in detention facilities participated in a two-day specialized training course on international standards related to the treatment of suspects and accused in custody. The event, which took place on 6-7 October 2011, was organized by the OSCE Office in Baku.
The purpose of this course is to improve the situation with observing the rights of suspects and accused while in custody by enhancing the professional skills of police and penitentiary personnel.
An international expert from the UK and a local expert from the Interior Ministry delivered lectures on the international standards on treatment of detainees, domestic law and practice, record keeping standards and matters related to the length of pre-trial detention.
This course is the first in a series of training activities for detention personnel the OSCE Office in Baku is supporting in 2011 and 2012.
