OSCE trains police officers in Baku on domestic violence
The OSCE Office in Baku, in close co-operation with Azerbaijan’s Interior Ministry, concluded on 27 August 2013 training cources for police officers.
The training courses were held under the project “Supporting the implementation of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the prevention of domestic violence”. Representatives of the Baku district police and the Chief Police Department of the city discussed the role and duties of police officers in preventing and combating domestic violence under the national legislation.
This training aimed at raising awareness of the police officers on the national legislative framework related to domestic violence.
“It is encouraging to see the close co-operation between government structures in order to more effectively implement the law on prevention of domestic violence,” said John MacGregor, the Head of the Politico-Military Unit of the OSCE Office in Baku. “The exchange of information will enable a better understanding of the roles that all of us play in preventing domestic violence.”
Local expert Shafa Jamalzadeh, together with the representatives of the Interior Ministry and State Committee for family, women and children affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan addressed the legal and socio-cultural aspects regarding the implementation of the law.
