OSCE Head of Centre expresses support for CICA as international organization
Ambassador Natalia Zarudna, the Head of the OSCE Centre in Astana, addressed participants at a conference on security architecture in Asia organized by the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in co-operation with the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan on 5 October 2012 in Astana.
Entitled “CICA: From Idea to Constructing Security Architecture in Asia,” the event focused on the development of politico-military interaction and the strengthening of economic co-operation within the framework of CICA. One of the sessions was devoted to the prospects for CICA's transformation into an international organization.
“The OSCE Centre is both ready and willing to facilitate CICA’s transformation into an institutional tool of co-operation and security in Asia, most notably through the exchange of experience accumulated by the OSCE on the basis of consensus and involvement of all participating States,” said Zarudna “We fully support President Nazarbayev’s statement at the jubilee ministerial meeting of CICA concerning the need to further develop and keep up interaction between CICA and the OSCE.”
