Seminar on human rights education to take place in Kazakhstan
ALMATY, 9 February 2005 - A seminar for school teachers on human rights education, organized by the OSCE Centre in Almaty, will be held in the city on 11 February.
The seminar will be based on two human rights manuals developed by the NGO Street Law-Kazakhstan. Given the lack of Kazakh-language teaching material in the country, the publication "Human Rights for all" was translated into Kazakh and published with the help of the OSCE Centre
Participants will be introduced to the content of the manuals and will receive an insight into the experience of Street Law-Kazakhstan with human rights education in secondary schools in southern Kazakhstan and Almaty.
They will be able to share their own experience and develop recommendations on how to improve the teaching of human rights and democracy in schools and for youth groups. New interactive teaching methods using the manuals will also be demonstrated.
Human rights representatives in Kazakhstan, including the Ombudsman, staff of the department of education, school directors and teachers, and representatives of the American Bar Association were invited to participate in the event.
Interested media are invited to attend the seminar, which will begin on 11 February at 10.00, at the "B" conference hall on the 26th floor of Hotel Kazakhstan in Almaty.
