URALSK 8 June 2004
URALSK, 8 June 2004 - The OSCE Centre in Almaty is organizing a series of master classes for young regional journalists in Kazakhstan, with the first one to be held on Thursday in Uralsk, in the north west of the country.
During the two-day training course, journalists between the ages of 18 and 25 will have the opportunity to master information gathering skills, improve their interview techniques as well as review issues of journalistic ethics and codes of conduct.
"Access to information is a crucial element of democratic development," said Ambassador Ivar Vikki, Head of Centre. "Training young professionals in how to present information accurately and in way that makes it interesting for the readers is an important component of this development."
The master classes will be conducted by Christopher Wren, former New York Times journalist and Princeton University professor.
Following the training in Uralsk, more classes will be organized in Aktobe, Kokshetau and Kostanay this summer. Five more training courses are to be held in Aktau, Kzyl Orda, Oskemen, Pavlodar and Taraz in September.
A total of 250 journalists in Kazakhstan are to receive training.
