OSCE Centre organizes workshop on farm business management in Turkmenistan
ASHGABAT, 10 April 2009 - An OSCE Centre workshop on effective farm business management ended today in Ashgabad.
Organized by the OSCE Centre in Ashgabad, in co-operation with Agriculture Ministry, the five-day workshop brought together more than 20 participants from governmental agricultural agencies and private business as well as independent consultants.
"A modern, market-driven and competitive agricultural sector is indispensable for Turkmenistan's economic security, and we are pleased to contribute to the country's efforts towards this goal," said Ambassador Arsim Zekolli, the Head of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabad.
"The state can play a critical role in providing the regulatory and policy frameworks as well as supporting services which are necessary for the development of competitive agriculture. Bringing together representatives from both governmental agencies and the private sector, the workshop provided a forum for an exchange of expertise among different stakeholders."
An expert from the Netherlands conducted the course, which aimed to enhance participants' knowledge and skills in farm business management, including profitability assessment, bookkeeping and budgeting.
The Centre plans to expand its programmes aimed at supporting Turkmenistan in reforming its agricultural sector.
