OSCE Centre supports English, IT lessons for Turkmenistan research institutions
ASHGABAD, 23 December 2008 - Fifty-five employees of research, educational and medical institutions in Turkmenistan received certificates today for completing English-language training supported by the OSCE Centre in Ashgabad.
The language course was part of a joint initiative by the OSCE Centre, the European Union's Technical Assistance for Commonwealth of Independent States (TACIS) Programme and the Supreme Council for Science and Technology (SCST) aimed at improving the knowledge and language skills of researchers and the science-educational community in Turkmenistan.
"A good command of English and the necessary computer skills are in increasing demand. and the OSCE Centre is pleased to support Turkmenistan's efforts to raise professional standards and expand educational opportunities," said Anne Suotula, the Officer-in-Charge of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabad.
As part of the project, more than 6,000 hours of training in English and computer literacy were provided by local trainers from the Turan Mugallym Teachers' Association this year. Approximately 2,500 officials have benefited from the training in all five regions of Turkmenistan since 2005.
