OSCE Centre in Ashgabad organizes workshop on stock markets
ASHGABAD, 24 September 2008 - More than 30 professionals and students from Turkmenistan's Banking College, Central Bank, Finance Ministry and the Institute for Strategic Planning are taking part in an OSCE Centre-organized workshop on equity markets valuation that concludes today in Ashgabad.
The seminar, organized in co-operation with the Foreign Ministry and the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, addressed valuation of equity investments, provided an overview of stock market development in Central Asia and stimulated discussion of challenges to the development of market economy structures.
"Equities markets play a vital role in the development of a vibrant financial sector and economic growth. We are pleased to see that Turkmenistan has promulgated a law calling for the establishment of a stock exchange, and we are happy to share with the Government of Turkmenistan best practices of equity markets operations in the region," said Azamat Joldasbekov, President of the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange and one of the speakers at the workshop.
The workshop is part of the OSCE Centre's efforts to support Turkmenistan's transition to a market economy.
