OSCE Centre in Ashgabad organizes workshop on railway safety and infrastructure planning
ASHGABAD, 14 September 2008 - Sharing international best practices and technical expertise in the areas of railway safety and infrastructure planning was the focus of a four-day workshop which concluded in Ashgabad today.
Ten employees from the Ministry of Railway Transport-engineers, technical operators, and maintenance workers- participated in the workshop organized by the OSCE Centre in Ashgabad.
Two international experts, representatives of the Austrian Federal Railways, delivered presentations on risk management, safety procedures, technical maintenance and operations according to international standards.
"Secure transportation networks and transport development can greatly enhance regional economic co-operation and stability," said Ambassador Ibrahim Djikic, Head of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabad. "The OSCE remains committed to providing support to improving transport security."
"It is very encouraging to see such enthusiasm displayed by our colleagues from the railway transport sector. We had a lively professional dialogue and agreed that railway safety, secure transit routes, international transport corridors and links to other OSCE participating States are of vital importance to our counterparts," added Johann Berger, an expert from Austria.
The OSCE Centre in Ashgabad is planning follow-up workshops in co-operation with the Government of Turkmenistan.
