OSCE Centre in Ashgabat organizes training courses on human rights
ASHGABAD 14 July 2006
ASHGABAD, 14 July 2006 - International human rights standards and ways to implement and protect them were the focus of training courses held from 3 to 14 July in Dashoguz and Turkmenabat.
Organized by the OSCE Centre in Ashgabad, Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry, the National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights (NIDHR) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the courses brought together more than 50 representatives of Parliament, the Prosecutor's office, the Defence Ministry, the State Border Services, the Interior Ministry, the Ministry of National Security and the State Service for Registration of Foreign Citizens.
Experts from the Netherlands and Turkey, as well as from OSCE, NIDHR and UNHCR discussed issues ranging from the historical development of human rights and rule of law to the implementation of norms of international law through establishing international reporting procedures.
Since 2001, the OSCE Centre has organized four courses on international human rights legislation and plans to hold similar courses in other regions of Turkmenistan next year.
