Turkmenistan’s future diplomats complete course on OSCE

ASHGABAT, 19 September 2014 – The OSCE and its role in international affairs were the focus of an OSCE-organized course that concluded today, for 60 students majoring in international relations and international law at the Institute of International Relations of Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry as well as the instructors from the Institute.
During the course, an international expert provided a comprehensive overview of the Organization’s history, principles and values, as well as the OSCE security dimensions, commitments and their implementation. Interactive exercises helped participants better understand the structure and objectives of the Оrganization as well as the philosophy behind the OSCE’s comprehensive approach to security and principles of decision-making within the Organization.
Additionally, officials from the OSCE Secretariat and OSCE Centre in Ashgabat shared expert information on the work of the Organization’s field missions and institutions, the Chairmanship and OSCE activities in Central Asia and Turkmenistan.
“The OSCE Centre in Ashgabat organized this course to enhance the awareness of future diplomats from Turkmenistan about the Organization and to contribute to their understanding of the role of the OSCE in international affairs at different periods of its existence,” said Christopher Hornek, Project Co-ordinator of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat”.
“This year, the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat is celebrating its 15th anniversary, and we found it a timely initiative to raise the students’ awareness about the Centre’s activities and the development of its successful co-operation with the Government of Turkmenistan over these years. In the near future, today’s students will start their careers in the area of international relations and we firmly believe that this course will contribute to their professional growth and their efforts aimed at further enhancing Turkmenistan’s involvement in international organizations.”
