OSCE Presence in Albania supports regional workshop on women's participation in elections

TIRANA, 25 June 2003 - The participation of women in elections will be the focus of a regional workshop supported by the OSCE Presence in Albania which will take place on Saturday, 26 June, in Tirana.
Participants will share the experience of their own countries and ways of improving women's participation in elections and political life in general. Topics will include the special status of women and gender balance in election commissions, awareness of women's right to vote, as well as legal provisions in support of greater participation of women in all aspects of elections.
The event, which will bring together representatives of civil society from Albania, Kosovo, Serbia and Montenegro, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Romania and Moldova, is being organized by the Albanian Institute for the Development of Electoral Systems, financed by the Open Society Foundation in Albania, and supported by the OSCE Presence as well as the Women for Global Action association.
Media representatives are invited to attend the workshop, which will start on 26 June, at 9 a.m. at the Chateau Linza complex, Tirana.
