OSCE Parliamentary Assembly delegation to meet Albanian leaders

TIRANA, 24 March 2003 - An OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (PA) delegation will meet on Tuesday and Wednesday top-level Albanian leaders, during a four-day visit to Albania. The delegation will be headed by a representative of the Italian minority in the Slovenian Parliament, Roberto Battelli.
On Tuesday, 25 March, the PA delegation will meet Albanian President Alfred Moisiu, Prime Minister Fatos Nano, the Speaker of the Albanian Assembly Servet Pellumbi and attend a session of the parliament. On Wednesday, 26 March, the delegation will meet Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilir Meta.
The delegation will also meet representatives of the international community in Albania, including Head of the European Commission Delegation, Lutz Salzmann, and the United States Ambassador, James Jeffrey, as well as the Head of the OSCE Presence in Albania, Ambasasador Osmo Lipponen and staff members of the Presence.
The parliamentarians will then travel to the city of Durres, where they will visit the heavily polluted Porto Romano industrial zone and illegal construction sites on Durres beach. They will be accompanied by elected members of the parliament from Durres.
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly includes more than 300 parliamentarians from the 55 OSCE participating States. The main task of the Assembly is to facilitate dialogue and co-operation between the parliaments of the OSCE region.
