OSCE/ODIHR and Council of Europe to hold roundtable on improving electoral process in Albania
TIRANA 21 November 2002
TIRANA, 21 November 2002 - The second in a series of four roundtables aimed at improving the electoral process in Albania will be held on 22 and 23 November in Tirana.
This event is part of a technical assistance project being carried out by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), related to recommendations made by the OSCE election observation body in its report on the 2001 elections. The roundtable will focus on the electoral complaints and appeals process. This was highlighted in the report as deserving special attention, as it contributed significantly to delay in determining the final results
The roundtable is being run in co-operation with the Council of Europe under the co-ordination of the OSCE Presence in Albania. Funding is being provided by the Dutch Ministry of Development Co-operation, through a voluntary contribution to OSCE/ODIHR.
Expert opinion will be presented by the ODIHR and the Council of Europe. Also present will be the members and experts of the Albanian Bipartisan Committee, representatives of the Albanian Constitutional Court, the High Court, the Central Electoral Commission and other Albanian state institutions and civil society.
All media are kindly invited to attend a press conference, which will present the findings of the roundtable discussion. It is due to be held at 17:30 hours on 23 November, at the Rogner Europapark Hotel.
