National trainers, supported by OSCE Mission to Skopje, will evaluate and recommend changes aimed at improving provisions of the new Law on Criminal Procedure.
The recommendations come as result of 12 regular basic training sessions supported by the Mission in 2011, whereas more than 400 professionals, including legal practitioners and law enforcement officials, underwent the basic training.
The layout and length of the trainings proved as essential in practicing some novel concepts of the law and thus allowed the trainers to identify issues of interpretation and propose concrete suggestions for improvement.
The new Law, to be implemented soon, is a major step towards a more adversarial and parties-driven system. Its implementation is to a large extent the core of the Criminal Justice Reform Strategy of the government, and is expected to strengthen procedural safeguards to a fair trial while at the same time contributing to the independence, fairness and efficiency of the judicial system.
