OSCE Mission to Serbia enhances police skills for protection and safety of victims of domestic violence

On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, 12 police victim co-ordinators will participate in an-OSCE training course in Kovacica.
The training course will focus on structured and systematic ways of evaluating safety and minimizing the risk of repeated violence against women in family and in intimate partner relationships.
The event is organized by the OSCE Mission to Serbia’s Law Enforcement Department in partnership with the Swedish National Police Board (SNPB) Program in Serbia and the Serbian Ministry of Interior.
The Ministry of Interior has established a network of 54 police victim co-ordinators in all regional police districts throughout Serbia in order to develop a system of measures to ensure protection and support for victims of violence.
Capacity building of police victim co-ordinators in structured and human rights based interviewing and evaluation of safety risks of victims of violence in family and intimate partner relationships has been the core of the support the OSCE provided in 2014.
Jan Joensson, Program Manager of the OSCE Mission’s Organized Crime Unit and Hans Jarvestam, Program Manager of the Swedish National Police Board Program in Serbia will open training course.
