The OSCE Programme Office in Astana in close partnership with the Executive Board of IFAS in Kazakhstan and the Aral-Syrdariya Water Basin Council co-organizes the annual meeting of the Aral-Syrdariya Water Basin Council and a back to back training workshop on water quality in the Aral Sea region and water saving technologies in agricultural sector.
It is expected that in the course of activities some 60 water experts from the governmental, private, international and civil society organizations will review the current status of the water pollution, the water quality standards for irrigation and discuss associated challenges in the Aral-Syrdariya Water Basin. It is expected that the major outcome of the activities would be a recommendation to establish a working group in the Aral Sea region to help identify the sources of water pollution and elaborate concrete recommendations for its elimination.
The events constitute an important part of the OSCE Programme Office’s activities targeting to assist the host country’s efforts in promoting water security and Intergraded Water Resources Management (IWRM) principles.
