Youth involvement in promotion of gender equality, lessons learnt and experience in supporting the advancement of women and girls in their communities and among families, friends and peers were the focus of a roundtable discussion conducted by the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe on 14 November 2018 in Dushanbe.

On 12 November 2018, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe started a new project “Patrol Field Capacity Building of the Tajik Border Troops through promotion of Regional Co-operation”. The project is supported by the Federal Republic of Germany and was launched in the Regional Training Centre of Khalkayor, some 230km south of Dushanbe.

The OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe and Tajikistan’s Interior Ministry inaugurated a second model police station in Tajikistan at a ceremony in the Esanboy community of the Rudaki district on 9 November 2018. The station will serve as a community policing centre where local community members can meet and discuss legal and strategic documents on police reform, and provide their recommendations to the Interior Ministry on improving community policing...

Renewable energy, green technology, resources efficiency and harmonizing environmental legislation were the focus of a series of training courses conducted by the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe in October. Conducted in Bokhtar, Garm, Khorog and Khujand, the courses promoted the realization of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals in Tajikistan. They brought together some 140 representatives of local government, civil society, youth and OSCE-established Aarhus Centres from all regions of the country...

The OSCE Border Management Staff College concluded its first course overseas on 26 October 2018. The 22nd Border Management Staff Course for 21 mid- to senior-ranking official representing 15 countries, including Armenia, Australia, Cyprus, Georgia, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Tajikistan, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey and Ukraine, was held at the premises of Legione Allievi, a training school of the Italian Financial Police, the Guardia di Finanza in Bari, Italy...

Delegations from Tajikistan and Afghanistan led, respectively, by the Commander of the Border Troops of Tajikistan, Colonel-General Rajabali Rahmonali, and the Head of the Afghan Border Police of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Brigadier General Abdullah Stanakzai, paid a visit to Tokyo, Japan, from 22 to 30 September 2018. The visit was organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe.

The OSCE-supported Women’s Resource Centres (WRCs) in Tajikistan together with local authorities celebrated the International Day of the Girl under the theme “Empowering Girls” in rural regions of Tajikistan on 11 October 2018. The campaign was organized around various thematic activities, which included painting contests, fashion design competitions, conferences and sessions bringing together different rural communities. It aimed at raising awareness of girls’ and boys’ equal rights to opportunities in society.
