The Code of Practice would ensure that states adhere to human rights principles in all actions pertaining to victims and survivors of trafficking in human beings, particularly in four areas: identification and protection; support and access to services; justice and redress; and victim and survivor engagement strategies.
The event hosted by ODIHR, with the participation of ISTAC survivor leaders, will discuss the following elements focused on ensuring the rights of victims and survivors of human trafficking:
- What are current challenges to incorporate the rights of victims and survivors of trafficking in combatting human trafficking on a national and local level?
- How can survivor and victim-centred and trauma-informed approaches be incorporated in national legislations and National Referral Mechanisms to combat trafficking of persons, including but not limited to, identification and protection, support and access to services, justice and redress?
- Which recommendations do survivor leaders have to incorporate victim and survivor-centred approaches in national legislation, policy and guidance?

Background
ODIHR has been active in preventing and combating trafficking in human beings for more than 20 years. In line with its mandate to assist States in establishing National Referral Mechanisms, as well as technical assistance in their development, monitoring and reporting on the implementation of NRMs in the OSCE participating States, OSCE ODIHR established the International Survivors of Trafficking Advisory Council (ISTAC). The OSCE participating States have made a number of commitments regarding the inclusion and promotion of voices of victims of trafficking in OSCE anti-trafficking efforts (MC.DEC No. 6/18; MC.DEC No. 6/17).
