ONLINE EVENT: Cross-Linkages between Human Trafficking and Pornography: Myth or Reality?

Trafficking for sexual exploitation, including for the production of pornographic material offline and online, has become particularly profitable and widespread due to the use of the “dark web”, "cryptocurrency" and encrypted messaging platforms, which enable traffickers to evade detection by law enforcement. Pornographic materials produced by traffickers are utilized to control victims, generate further demand and continue to profit from the trafficking of victims who have been physically removed from traffickers’ control. The COVID-19 crisis highlights this, especially since there has been evidence of a shift in trafficking for sexual exploitation online. This requires the development of an effective policy response to this emerging challenge.
The aim of the event is to shed light on the cross-linkages of trafficking in human beings and pornography, especially against the backdrop of the breakout of COVID-19. It will provide a forum for discussion to assess and examine the pervasive issue of trafficking for the purpose of production of pornographic material and the long-term effects for the victims of trafficking. In order to develop meaningful solutions to counter these dynamics, the event will also highlight promising practices from across the OSCE region.
Speakers will include:
Ambassador Per-Anders Sunesson, Swedish Ambassador at Large for Combating Trafficking in Persons
MP Frank Heinrich, Rapporteur for Human Trafficking and Slavery of the Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid at the German Bundestag
Anastasiya Dzyakava, Adviser on child safety online at the office of the Vice-Prime-Minister and Minister for Digital Transformation of Ukraine
Shandra Woworuntu, Founder of Mentari and survivor leader
Congressman Chris Smith, OSCE PA Special Representative on Human Trafficking Issues
Members of delegations of OSCE participating States and Partners for Co-operation, civil society organizations, survivors of trafficking and interested OSCE staff are welcome to participate in this webinar.
