Prosecutors are a vital part of any legal system. They are supposed to able to make decisions based only on the applicable law and the facts of the case. When prosecutors are subjected to undue influence by the legislature, executive authorities, or even their own superiors, justice cannot be served.
This conference will bring together government officials, lawyers, civil society representatives and other participants to discuss ways to ensure that the functional independence of prosecutors is respected and protected in Moldova.
During 2018 and 2019, ODIHR has conducted a needs assessment study on functional independence of prosecutors in Eastern Europe. The study will be presented at the conference.
