Regional conference on the role of national jurisdictions in the implementation of international humanitarian law

The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), in co-operation with the International Committee of the Red Cross, the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Swiss Embassy to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the State Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina
This two-day conference offers around 65 judges, prosecutors and legal experts from South-Eastern Europe and selected European countries, the opportunity to take stock of the current status of war crimes prosecutions in South-Eastern Europe, as well as to exchange experiences on challenges and good practices in handling war crimes cases.
The interaction between domestic and international law, inter-state cooperation and co-operation with international tribunals, as well as wider transitional justice efforts, will also be discussed. As a result of the conference, justice actors from the region, particularly prosecutors, will further strengthen regional co-operation and legal assistance in war crimes cases.
The regional event is organized as part of the OSCE/ODIHR War Crimes Justice Project – Phase II. The project was developed to assist justice actors in South-Eastern Europe in prosecuting and adjudicating war crimes. It is led by ODIHR and supported by the OSCE field operations based in the Western Balkans.
