Preventing torture and ill treatment in Moldovan prisons
27 November 2013
The OSCE Mission to Moldova provides support and advice on a range of human rights and democratization issues, including combating torture and ill-treatment.
Together with the Moldovan Center for Human Rights, the Mission organized a roundtable for local commissions checking international standards in detention monitoring. As a follow up on last year’s project, a focus was put on establishing monitoring commissions.
Participants, including commission members, donors and local NGOs, discussed local commissions’ challenges and developments over the past year, as well as best practices in productive co-operation with local authorities.
The roundtable was followed by a training session during which commission members conducted a monitoring visit with experts to detention facilities under the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Justice.
