Updated Commentary on the First Geneva Convention - Commentary of 2016
Translation of the ICRC original publication: The updated Commentary on Convention (I) for the Amelioration of the Condition of the Wounded and Sick in Armed Forces in the Field, published online on 22 March 2016, available in Serbian language. Translation was supported by the OSCE Mission to Serbia.
Since their adoption in 1949 there have been significant developments in how the Geneva Conventions are applied and interpreted in practice. This commentary addresses a range of important issues such as the scope of the obligation to respect humanitarian law, the beginning and end of armed conflict and the protection of the wounded and sick, medical facilities and personnel.
