The South Eastern European University opened in Tetovo, a project initiated by the former OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, Max van der Stoel, to improve opportunities for higher education in minority languages.
Open to all students regardless of ethnicity, the curriculum is taught in Albanian, Macedonian, English and other European languages. The university includes faculties of law, business administration, public administration, teacher training, communications and computer studies.
Higher education has been one of the points of contention between the country's Macedonian and Albanian communities.
