The seminar aims to enhance professional skills of journalists on legal reporting, expand their knowledge on human rights, equip them with knowledge on how to assert their right to access information during court proceedings and establish good co-operation of court reporters with judicial authorities. The selected target group of 15 journalists representing the “Guild of Court Reporters” will attend three two-day training seminars. The course will be led by acting judges from the Union of Judges of Kazakhstan, practicing lawyers and journalists and will be built around the following key modules: openness of court trial, protection of the access to information during the court trial; civil cases and criminal justice coverage issues; specific issues in court coverage.
The event is in line with the mandate of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana on promoting media freedom and access to information.
