This report presents the key findings and recommendations brought forward during a regional workshop for South East Europe on ‘Detention Monitoring and the Protection of Human Rights While Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism and Radicalization to Terrorism (VERLT) in Prisons’. Prior to taking up the agenda, the Chairperson welcomed the new Permanent Representative of Türkiye to the OSCE, H.E. Ambassador Z. Kiziltan, to the Permanent Council. The Chairperson informed the Council that the Federal Councillor and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, H.E. Mr. I. Cassis, had, in a letter to the Chairperson-in-Office of the OSCE, H.E. Dr. I. Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism of Malta, dated 18 December 2024, confirmed Switzerland’s readiness to assume the Chairmanship of the OSCE in 2026 (Russian Federation, Annex).
