Countering terrorism
The Mission works on building capacities and assisting authorities at all levels to further improve relevant strategic documents, plans and operating procedures - for example those on responding to terrorist attacks. As part of support to implementation of the Strategy of Bosnia and Herzegovina for Preventing and Countering Terrorism, focus is placed on advancing inter-agency, civil-military and multi-sectoral co-operation.
Emerging areas of Mission engagement involve countering financing of terrorism and addressing the issue of returning foreign terrorist fighters and their family members. In addition, the Mission monitors the investigation, prosecution, and punishment of suspected terrorist activities.
In helping prevent and counter the threat of violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism (P/C VERLT), the Mission supports efforts that systemically embrace a multi-disciplinary approach - both as a prerequisite for effectiveness and to avoid inadvertent harm to local communities. Using its extensive field presence, the Mission builds capacities of a wide range of stakeholders at the community level and advocates for meaningful inclusion of relevant sectors and segments of society - including religious communities, youth, media, law enforcement, social protection agencies, education authorities, health institutions, sand civil society organizations.
