Rule of law
The Mission monitors, reports and assesses judicial responses to war crimes, hate crimes and trafficking in human beings, enabling the identification of obstacles to fair and efficient criminal justice. This then forms the basis of targeted advice to the competent authorities with a view to improving performance and ensuring justice for victims.
The Mission seeks to improve the public’s understanding of justice and promote judicial transparency by ensuring that up-to-date information regarding war crimes trials is available to the public, including through the Mission’s interactive war crimes case map.
In the same vein, through field monitoring, the Mission charts trends in terms of the location, nature, and frequency of hate crimes, which are then published monthly on an online platform to inform and engage citizens.
In co-operation with universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Mission also organizes lectures and workshops for law students aimed at introducing them to the legal challenges of fighting serious and sensitive crimes.
