Biography
Sebastian Kurz wurde 1986 in Wien geboren. Ab 2003 engagierte er sich in der Jungen ÖVP, 2005 begann er sein Studium der Rechtswissenschaften in Wien. 2007 wurde er zum Landesobmann der Jungen ÖVP Wien und im Juni 2009 zum Bundesobmann der Jungen ÖVP gewählt. Ab November 2010 war er Abgeordneter zum Wiener Landtag und Gemeinderat, bis er im April 2011 zum Staatsekretär für Integration ernannt wurde. Mit „Integration durch Leistung“ etablierte er erstmals einen sachlichen Zugang zu diesem Thema.
Am 16. Dezember 2013 wurde er als Bundesminister für Europa, Integration und Äußeres angelobt. Zu den Schwerpunkten seiner Außen- und Europapolitik zählen die Heranführung der Länder Südosteuropas an die EU, die Positionierung Wiens als Ort des Dialogs etwa durch den Abschluss der Iran-Verhandlungen und den Auftakt der Syrien-Gespräche in Wien, die Unterstützung für die österreichische Wirtschaft im Ausland mittels des neu eingerichteten Unternehmensservice im BMEIA und bürgernahe Serviceleistungen für Auslandsreisende und Auslandsösterreicher.
2014 war Sebastian Kurz Vorsitzender des Ministerkomitees des Europarates, 2017 übernimmt Österreich den OSZE-Vorsitz. Seit September 2015 ist Sebastian Kurz zudem Vorsitzender der Politischen Akademie der Volkspartei.
