OSCE promotes dialogue on energy challenges to Eurasian security
MINSK, 20 May 2010 - Foreign and national experts and more than 80 students and faculty staff at the Belarusian State University's Faculty of International Relations discussed energy challenges to Eurasian security during a conference held today at the initiative of the OSCE Office in Minsk.
"The OSCE promotes a comprehensive approach to security and addresses various challenges of an economic, energy or environmental nature that could be the source of regional conflicts," said Ambassador Benedikt Haller, the Head of the OSCE Office in Minsk. "The dialogue for energy security is an inherent part of this approach to co-operative security. The OSCE works to promote dialogue between producer, transit and consumer countries as an integral part of the ongoing dialogue on the European security architecture.
"The OSCE's inclusiveness - all 56 participating States are represented on an equal basis and its comprehensive approach to security as well as its long experience makes it well-positioned to promote such dialogue."
The conference is part of a co-operation with the international relations faculty to promote understanding of OSCE values and commitments. In July, the Faculty and the OSCE will publish a booklet comprising contributions from the experts attending the conference.
