OSCE Office supports opening of anti-corruption Centre in Armenia's Syunik province

GORIS, Armenia, 6 June 2008 - An anti-corruption reception Centre, supported by the OSCE Office in Yerevan, opened today in Goris, in the remote Syunik province.

The Centre will offer citizens consultations on legal issues, on the responsibilities, functions and procedures of local self-government bodies, the State agency for cadastre, passport desks and notary offices, and other bodies that offer public services at the local level. The Centre will also assist in filing court complaints on labour law issues, social protection, and civil and administrative law.

"The Centre in Goris will contribute to the transparency and accessibility of local self-government bodies and state agencies, which would be of benefit both to the service providers and their recipients," said Marc Bojanic, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Office.

"Citizens will be able to seek advice on many tangible issues that affect their daily lives."

The Centre will be run by the Millenium Association for Education and Research.

It is the fourth such centre in Armenia supported by the OSCE Office within its anti-corruption programme. Other centres opened last year in the capital Yerevan, in Martuni (Gegharkunik province) and in Stepanavan (Lori province).

The Goris anti-corruption Centre is located at: 3 Independence Str., Goris, tel. (0284) 22552.
