Activities before August 2008

Since its opening, the Mission's main priority has been to contribute to the peaceful resolution of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict, where it has been engaged in two major economic rehabilitation programmes as well as other activities in the human and politico-military areas. The Mission has also been contributing to the United Nations-led efforts to find a settlement of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict.

The Georgian-Ossetian Conflict

The Mission's main priority has been to contribute to the peaceful resolution of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict. With the OSCE's comprehensive approach, the Mission worked in the politico-military, economic and environmental, and human areas of security.

Economic rehabilitation

In the zone of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict, the Mission is engaged in two major rehabilitation programmes. The first is the recently launched initiative stemming from a needs assessment study. Activities before August 2008.

The Georgian-Abkhaz conflict

The OSCE Mission to Georgia supported United Nations-led efforts towards a comprehensive settlement of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict. Since 1994, the Mission has liaised with the UN operations in Abkhazia to follow events closely.
