OSCE Presence in Albania

The Public Affairs and Media Office of the OSCE Presence in Albania assists media institutions in aligning relevant legislation with European standards. Activities continue to focus on promoting a free media and freedom of expression, professionalism and responsibility, access to information and high-quality education for young journalists.

The Office:

• Assists the two main state media institutions (the National Council of Radio and Television and the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Media), other relevant Albanian institutions and the media community in building up their capacity to foster media independence;
• Offers technical assistance to the government in revising media legislation, aiming to create a viable and professional media industry in line with international standards;
• Supports the creation of a Council on Media Ethics and other self-regulatory mechanisms and assists them in playing a stronger role in the development of professional standards;
• Provides training workshops for local media on professional and ethical reporting;
• Raises the awareness of local authorities and the media community on issues of access to information;
• Collaborates closely with the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media and international media-related institutions and NGOs.
