Media freedom

The OSCE observes relevant media developments in its participating States with a view to addressing and providing early warning on violations of freedom of expression. Free and well-developed media are a cornerstone for working civil societies.

The OSCE provides training for journalists and technicians, is instrumental in setting up radio stations and is monitoring the freedom of information on the Internet.

Despite the many successes during its first ten years, the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media will remain vigilant against new and worrying trends in the OSCE region.

Serbia competition gives journalism students chance to study abroad

Ten journalism students from Belgrade University got a chance to sharpen their skills at media organizations in the Netherlands and the UK when they won a competition organized by the OSCE Mission to Serbia.

OSCE media freedom representative surveys media laws to boost investigative journalism

The OSCE media freedom representative conducted a 56-country survey to foster improved legal conditions for investigative journalism, broader access to information and less secrecy in the daily work of governments.
