Rethink ‘Teleradio-Moldova’

The OSCE Mission to Moldova led a conference on the re-organization of Teleradio-Moldova. It served as a forum for debates on Teleradio-Moldova’s reform, aiming to help it become a modern, pluralistic, professional and independent public service broadcaster.

The management and supervisory board of the regional public broadcaster Teleradio-Gagauzia also participated in the conference in order to facilitate a transfer of Teleradio-Moldova’s experience and best practices to the Gagauzia regional public broadcaster.

Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat (c) opens the conference on Teleradio-Moldova reform, the first of its kind, noting that it concerns all of Moldovan society.

The event brought together officials from the Government and Parliament, development partners, non-governmental organizations, media and other local and international stakeholders. The conference concluded with drawing conclusions and recommendations for the further restructuring of Teleradio-Moldova, with a particular emphasis on the role of the state in the reform process.

Principal Adviser to the OSCE Representative for Freedom of the Media Roland Bless, reiterates that public service broadcasting is a crucial measure in promoting democracy. “We hope that Teleradio-Moldova will make full use of all available technologies to provide high quality programming to the widest audience possible; and we hope the Moldovan state will create the conditions to help make it happen.”
