OSCE Chairmanship Workshop on Economic and Environmental Activities as Confidence-building Measures

When: 30 May 2011

Where: Hofburg, Vienna

Organized by: The Lithuanian OSCE Chairmanship, supported by the Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities

Economic and environmental activities can contribute to building confidence and trust between different actors, parties and states, thus reducing or eliminating causes of tension that may exist among them. Such activities may therefore play an important role in maintaining and strengthening national and regional security and stability.

This workshop will provide an opportunity to share information among the OSCE participating States on best practices, successful experiences and accumulated know-how regarding the contribution of economic and environmental activities to the restoration of trust and the enhancement of confidence. The workshop will provide OSCE delegations with a better understanding of these linkages and, on the basis of lessons learned, will serve as a platform where further plans and projects can be discussed and developed. The outcomes of the workshop could provide guidance and substance for the assignment of further specific tasks to OSCE executive structures.
