“One of the OSCE’s main functions lies in managing and bridging diverging perceptions of security through its co-operative approach,” said Ambassador Ihor Prokopchuk, speaking on behalf of the Ukrainian OSCE Chairmanship at the opening of the 2013 Security Days event on 17 June 2013.

He welcomed the opportunity for the OSCE participating States to engage in an informal, open debate with academics and representatives of think-tank, media and civil society, complementing and informing discussions in security that take place behind closed doors.

He also pledge the Chairmanship’s support for the inauguration of an OSCE academic network, an informal initiative of research institutes from across the OSCE area engaged in research and other academic activities on security issues, which will be discussed on the second day of the event.
