OSCE Secretary General meets Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan

JEJU, Republic of Korea, 1 June 2012 - OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier today met with the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Omurbek Babanov, in the margins of the Jeju Peace Forum, at which both were delivering keynote addresses.

The Secretary General and the Prime Minister discussed co-operation between the OSCE and Kyrgyzstan, including the extension of the OSCE Community Security Initiative (CSI), which is designed to assist local police in building trust in the south of the country. The Secretary General expressed appreciation for Kyrgyzstan’s very constructive co-operation with the OSCE, and the authorities’ support for CSI.

The Secretary General commended the Government for the progress achieved over the past two years and expressed satisfaction for the successful Kyrgyz Chairmanship of the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation over the last few months. He also noted Kyrgyzstan’s constructive approach to supporting the assistance of Afghanistan and looked forward to further discussion on the subject.
