Contemporary Challenges to Euro-Atlantic Security: Strategies for Co-operation and Joint Solutions
- Date:

- Conflict prevention and resolution
Over the past year, new challenges have shaken the international security system to its foundations.
The crisis in and around Ukraine has revealed a growing East-West divide, calling into question the fundamental principles of Euro-Atlantic security.
Afghanistan has entered a new stage of its transformation, but remains a fragile state whose instability affects security and stability across Central Asia and beyond.
Meanwhile the swift and brutal rise of extremist militant groups in the Middle East has contributed to the radicalization of some young people across the OSCE area and in neighbouring regions, inspiring them to serve as foreign terrorist fighters or to attempt acts of terrorism at home.
All of these rapidly evolving developments are increasing instability and insecurity. Because these challenges are too complex and multifaceted for any single country or organization to tackle on its own, co-operation and joint solutions are the only practical approaches to resolving them.
The 2015 OSCE Security Days conference on 17 March 2015 focuses on “Contemporary Challenges to Euro-Atlantic Security: Strategies for Co-operation and Joint Solutions”. Hosted by the Wilson Center in Washington, DC, this one-day event will provide a platform for exploring strategies to address these critical challenges.
Speakers include high-level officials, prominent members of civil society and other key players active in the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian region, as well as senior officials from international organizations and leading academic experts and journalists. The agenda and the full list of panellists can be found here (please note all times are given in Eastern Daylight Time, -4 hours GMT).
