OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, on his visit to Azerbaijan, urges to re-double efforts towards peaceful resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

BAKU, 8 July 2013 – OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara today discussed the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement and other OSCE-related issues with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliev, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Chairman of the Milli Mejlis (Parliament) Ogtay Asadov.

The OSCE Chair reiterated his confidence that sustainable and long-term settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can only be achieved by peaceful means and on the basis of the international law. He urged to re-double efforts towards peaceful resolution of the conflict and expressed his support to the activities of the Minsk Group Co-Chairs directed at promoting dialogue between the parties.

The Minister also underlined the important role of parliamentary dimension in seeking for effective ways to solve the conflict.

Current state of play in the three dimensions of the OSCE, implementation of priorities of the Ukrainian OSCE Chairmanship and mandate of the OSCE Office in Baku were also among issues discussed.

The OSCE Chair paid a visit to Azerbaijan on 7-8 July 2013.
