Promoting public participation in local environmental decision-making

The activity is a part of a state-wide campaign organized—so far in Novi Sad, Subotica, Vrbas, Prijepolje and Novi Pazar—aimed at promoting model legislation that provides for institutionalized partnerships between local authorities and civil society members.
The models were drafted in the form of proposed Municipal Assembly (MA) decisions, adopted by the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM) and Municipal Assembly of Kragujevac. Implementing partners include local self-government representatives from Nis and Zajecar, the SCTM and the Regional Aarhus Centre in Kragujevac.
Local authorities in Kragujevac emerged as leaders of environmental activism having opened the first self-sustainable Aarhus center in Serbia and after adopting an MA decision to establish viable partnerships with the civil society in tackling environmental challenges.
