The guidebook aims at bridging the gap between journalists and the authorities. It includes recommendations for increasing the safety of journalists and provides best practices on the protection role of the institutions, as well as recommendations for police, public prosecutors, and journalists covering critical events. The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media and its staff observe media developments in the 57 participating States and promote compliance with OSCE media freedom commitments. 

Within the framework of the Cyprus Dialogue project, the OSCE RFOM Office has supported the creation of a glossary of some of the phrases commonly used by the two communities, which may be sensitive.

This publication looks back on and reflects on a highly successful series of expert meetings and related work carried out by the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media as part of the Open Journalism project. At the same time, it also looks forward, wondering how the regulatory, ethical, technological and market-related challenges facing Open Journalism can be overcome in the future.

This five point guide for journalists provides a quick and handy overview of the most important things to have in mind when reporting on radicalization and violent extremism, by advising journalists on the principles of conflict-sensitive, ethical and fact-based reporting. The guide also advises journalists on the importance of knowing the terminology related to radicalization and violent extremism, including all voices, and avoiding inflammatory content and generalizations when reporting on this topic.

Safety of Female Journalists Online is part of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media's work to promote journalists' safety in all 57 participating States. Democracy thrives when a plurality of voices are heard both on- and offline. Plurality is currently at risk.
