The OSCE promotes professional, democratic police services that are trusted by citizens and able to effectively address transnational threats to security and stability, such as those that emanate from terrorism and organized crime. Police-related activities are integral parts of the OSCE’s efforts in conflict prevention, crisis management and post-conflict rehabilitation. The Strategic Police Matters Unit (SPMU) is the focal point for the OSCE’s police-related work. As a part of the OSCE Transnational Threats Department (TNTD), the SPMU supports the activities of the Secretary General, the OSCE Chairmanship, the TNTD Director, participating States and field operations.

In 2018 the OSCE implemented the OSCE-led Survey on the Well-being and Safety of Women in selected countries in South Eastern Europe and Eastern Europe. The OSCE-led survey included a quantitative and qualitative component and was undertaken with the goal of providing comparable data on different forms of violence women experience in their childhood and throughout the course of their lives.

It is written especially with the countries of South-Eastern Europe in mind and provides a critical resource to help guide the development of policy and practice.

The guidebook on “A Whole-of-Society Approach to Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism and Radicalization That Lead to Terrorism- A Guidebook for Central Asia” is one in a series of technical guidebooks produced by the Transnational Threat Department/ Action against Terrorism Unit and focuses on the challenges in developing and implementing effective programmes to prevent and counter VERLT in Central Asia. This Compendium of the three recent Ministerial Council Decisions on preventing and combating trafficking in human beings is designed to highlight the individual provisions of the Decisions: MC 6/17, 7/17 and 6/18. It also suggests OSCE-produced resources for participating States to consult for guidance on implementation of the specific commitments. A table of thematic keywords found in the Decisions allows policy makers and practitioners to search the provisions of the Decisions by keywords consistent with their particular interest.
