It includes recommendations for increasing the safety of journalists and provides best practices on the protection role of the institutions, as well as recommendations for police, public prosecutors, and journalists covering critical events. The public in the criminal procedure

The guidebook “The public in the criminal procedure”, prepared by the OSCE Mission to Skopje and the Public Prosecutors Association, provides journalists with useful tips on how to effectively report on court proceedings. The publication gives an overview of all phases of the new criminal procedure, including the competences of all actors in the process,, exceptions to the right of the public to be present at trial hearing, the role of journalists in objective and accurate reporting of trials, and their accountability.

This reference book was produced by the local organization Pro-Media in co-operation with the National Commission on Access to Information, and with support from the OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje. It aims at encouraging a more responsible media, a more active civil society, increased transparency in governance and a reduction of corruption, all of which will build public trust in Government and state institutions.
