OSCE Counter-Terrorism Conference 2017 in Vienna

Around 500 experts from across the OSCE region gathered for the annual OSCE-wide Counter-Terrorism Conference. Participants discussed national experiences and international co-operation in countering terrorism, good practices from the OSCE region on rehabilitation and reintegration strategies, as well as prevention of radicalization to terrorism.

The OSCE-wide Counter-Terrorism Conference 2017 was opened by the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Austria's Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz, followed by the keynote speeches from the European Commissioner for the Security Union Julian King and Goodwill Ambassador of the UN for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking Nadia Murad. The discussion continued with Jan Jambon, Deputy Prime-Minister and Minister of Interior of the Kingdom of Belgium, Dragan Mektic, Minister of Security of Bosnia-Herzegovina and Special Representative of the OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office on Countering Radicalization and Violent Extremism Peter Neumann, and was moderated by OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier, 23 May 2017.

Young experts from the wider Central Asia region came together to share their experience on the prevention of violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism at a workshop convened by the OSCE Austrian Chairmanship in Almaty on 11-13 May 2017. They formulated policy recommendations for decision makers that will be presented to all the participating States and the OSCE Partners for Co-operation at the 2017 OSCE Counter-Terrorism Conference on 23 and 24 May 2017 in Vienna.
