The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine continues helping the country’s demining agencies to enhance their capacities in clearing the areas affected by war so that local communities could return to normal life.
Photo
Clearance of forest areas from explosive threats near Myrotske, in Bucha’s community, is a challenging task that is now being performed by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
Photo
It is not safe to go to forests, as they are contaminated by mines, abandoned munitions and unexploded ordnance.
Photo
Forests around Kyiv sustained severe damage from shelling and fires, as they were used by the military for a cover in the intense combat.
Photo
Demining of affected areas need a lot of co-ordination among the variety of agencies, both local and international. Agricultural lands of Lypivka village, near Makariv, are being cleared by international NGO Halo Trust. The Ministry of Defense controls the quality of work and its compliance with the technical requirements and national mine action standards (NMAS). The OSCE in co-operation with other international organizations, national and international operators has helped Ukraine to elaborate and adopt NMAS based on the best international practices and experiences of demining operators in Ukraine.
