“Corjova has an uncomfortable existence squeezed in between Tiraspol’s and Chisinau’s influence, which sometimes has negative effects on everyday life here. We wanted to do something for the children, something in order to put a smile of their faces,” says Kenneth Pickles, the OSCE official responsible for the project.

Getting children to smile is not the only objective of the project – it also aims to develop co-operation between the two banks of the Dniestr/Nistru River.

Official 5+2 talks on Transdniestrian settlement in Dublin, February 2012

Another round of official negotiations on the Transdniestrian settlement was held in Dublin on 28-29 February 2012. The two-day meeting brought together representatives of the sides, mediators and observers in the negotiations – Moldova, Transdniestria, the OSCE, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, the US and the EU. This is only the second official meeting in the 5+2 format following a nearly six-year hiatus.

The destruction of surplus ammunition is crucial for non-proliferation, regional stability, and the safety of civilians. The OSCE Mission to Moldova has been working with the Moldovan Ministry of Defence on ammunition disposal projects since 2007. The disposal of air bombs in July 2011 was the latest in a series of projects.
